The Hanover Improvement Society (HIS), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting opportunities to maintain and improve the Hanover community and greater Upper Valley, is excited to announce Jennifer Rickards as its new Executive Director. Jennifer began her new role on February 17, 2026.

Founded in 1922, HIS owns and operates the Storrs Pond Recreation Area, James W. Campion III Rink, and Nugget Theater. HIS operates independently, but often in coordination with town governance or other non-profit organizations, to fund projects and operate facilities beneficial to the town and local communities. Jeff Graham, who has for the last decade served as General Manager and more recently Executive Director, will support Jennifer to ensure a smooth and thoughtful leadership transition.

With more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience, Jennifer brings a blend of strategic vision, fundraising expertise, and a deep commitment to the community. Most recently, Jennifer has directed operations and strategic initiatives for The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine, overseeing finance, human resources, and faculty affairs while steering long-range planning.

Her passion, however, lies within the world of community organizations, having served in professional and volunteer roles in a number of local non-profits. Jennifer held leadership positions for 16 years with the Montshire Museum of Science, and served as its former Deputy Director. In these roles, she launched capital campaigns, redesigned visitor experiences, introduced design-thinking tools, and developed programs to support affordable access to scientific discovery, nature, and innovation for residents throughout the Upper Valley. Jennifer also has had volunteer leadership roles within the Howe Library Corporation, the Friends of Hanover Norwich Schools, and other non-profit organizations.

In Jennifer’s new role, she will be responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of HIS, leading the HIS staff, and ensuring the efficient and effective operation of Storrs Pond, the Campion Rink, and Nugget Theater. Her work will focus on building and maintaining community relationships and strategic partnerships – including with the town, college, community partner organizations, donors, HIS members, and users of Storrs Pond, Campion, and the Nugget. She will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure that HIS remains effective, dynamic, and visionary in achieving its mission.

“I have great admiration for the Hanover Improvement Society, its people, and its mission, and I’m very excited to serve my community in this new capacity,” said Jennifer.

The Hanover Improvement Society extends its sincere gratitude to Jeff Graham for his leadership and dedication and looks forward to continued momentum and growth under Jennifer’s leadership.
