Fairlee, VT - Appleseed Development announced today that it has purchased the shuttered Evans Express Mart on Main Street and has plans to convert it into a space for a restaurant. Appleseed Development has been working in partnership with the Evan’s Group and the State of Vermont for the past year to move the property through the environmental review process. The renovation is expected to begin this summer, take seven months and cost over $300,000.
The gas station, which has been vacant for over a decade, will be renovated and transformed into a modern and cozy dining space. In the interim, the space will be activated with food trucks, public art and improved landscaping. The Appleseed partners are currently in discussions with several restaurateurs about this exciting opportunity.
"We are excited to bring new life to this old building and create a place where people can enjoy good food and good company," said Deecie Denison, a partner in Appleseed Development. "We believe that this project will benefit the community by creating jobs, attracting visitors and continuing the revitalization of Downtown Fairlee.”
“This redevelopment of North Main Street in Fairlee exemplifies the transformative impact of state funding and support. ReStart VT Technical Assistance, Enhanced Energy Efficiency Project Incentives from Efficiency Vermont, the Capital Investment Program, and a Building Community Grant are just some of the state support that have helped to make this work possible for small developers.” Joan Goldstein, Commissioner, Vermont Department of Economic Development
“We are thrilled to see the continued revitalization of Downtown Fairlee. The renovation of this underutilized service station will be a welcome addition to our community.” Peter Berger - Vice Chair, Fairlee Selectboard.
