The news came on Tuesday in a press release from the handcrafted glassware company, based in Windsor, VT and Oakland, MD. In a phone interview, CEO Jay Benson said the move to bring San Francisco-based SBJ Capital on as a partner comes as Simon Pearce looks for ways to expand its sales footprint. “We have found a partner that wants to invest in our future and allow us to keep operating the way we want to,” he said. He notes that over the last few years, Simon Pearce has opened stores in Manchester, NH, Portland ME, Burlington, VT, Ardmore PA, and Alexandria, VA—as well as expanded its wholesale network—and is looking to keep growing. The company’s current leadership team, Benson said, will continue to play that role. “They’re investors,” he said of SBJ, “they’re not running the business.”
