Ari writes: “This podcast tells the story of the Hultquist family, five campers at Dartmouth’s chapter of Camp Kesem. This is a nonprofit organization that provides a week of free sleepaway camp to kids in the Upper Valley (and surrounding areas) affected by a parent’s cancer. The kids range in age from 8 to 18.” In Ari’s piece, the Hultquists talk about the community, hope, and support they’ve found at Kesem Dartmouth—which is currently run by Sara Pickrell and Nathan McAllister, who also have longstanding connections to Kesem. Overall, Ari adds, “this piece highlights the need for a community among these kids who are experiencing very adult situations” and Kesem’s place in providing just that.

Ari Morris is a Dartmouth senior from Newbury Park, CA. This is one of a series of podcasts produced by Dartmouth students in Sophie Crane’s winter 2024 class at Dartmouth, “Tell Me A Story: An Introduction to Nonfiction Radio and Podcasting.”
